Evaluation

EVALUATION IS IMPORTANT! It
asks, "What can we learn?"
The In-Touch Science team wants to know:
-
are the children are engaged and
learning?
-
are the adult/teen facilitators confident
and comfortable?
-
how can we improve the program?
When you use In-Touch Science, you may
want to know other things. You may want to develop
your own evaluation tools or adapt ours.

The In-Touch Science team includes
a professional evaluator who designed an evaluation
and worked with us to collect and analyze data.
We used these evaluation methods:
-
observed the children during
an activity
-
taped record a session
-
collected "I wonder"
statements from children
-
collected evaluation forms
completed by facilitators
-
interviewed facilitators by
telephone and in-person
-
collected questionnaires from
responding facilitators
This group wrote "I wonder"
statements on cut-outs of birds and fish. Now they
are putting those cut-outs together as a puzzle.
This serves as a review of the activity and a permanent
record of children's responses.

A variety of evaluation forms have
been developed. They include:
All three evaluation forms are
on the website. The youth activity evaluation forms
are also in the back of each publication.
|
|
|
In-Touch Science has conducted several
assessments over the years and you can read those
summaries on our website. Nonetheless, the team
still strives to improve the program. We can only
do that with continued feedback from users. Thus,
we offer INCENTIVES. By submitting as few as five
youth activity evaluation forms, you can win magnifying
lenses, medicine droppers, wool fleece, and other
supplies. See the Evaluation Incentive Handout or
website link for details.
