Funded by the National Science Foundation and Cornell University

In-Touch Science workshops train adults or teens to work with children in grades 3-5 (approximately 8-11 years old). Workshops vary from 2-16 hours and may be led by the Cornell-based Team or by anyone who has attended an In-Touch Science workshop.

Who Should Attend the Training?

Teachers, 4-H leaders, scout masters, camp coordinators, after-school program staff...any person interested in sharing science with children. Participants need not have formal science training.

What is the suggested workshop size?

The ideal size is 8-10 participants for each workshop leader.

What Will Workshop Participants Do?

Workshop participants practice doing and leading hands-on activities. These topics are also covered in small/ large discussion groups, brief presentations, or demonstrations:

  • engaging children
  • working with diverse audiences
  • integrating In-Touch Science into different sites and programs
  • understanding the leaderšs role
  • collecting evaluation data
  • maintaining safety
  • managing supplies
